He restores my soul – Psalm 23:3
We want our broken relationships to be restored, but I think we should start with asking the Lord to restore our souls.
Living this life can lead to fractures in our souls. We can become wounded and hardened by offense, anger, and discrimination. There are personal offenses that happen between husbands and wives – arguments, misunderstandings, and even affairs. There are disagreements that happen between friends and loved ones that lead us to build walls to keep folks from ever hurting us again. Then there are global and national events, such as recent events of injustice that took the life of George Floyd, that cause us to mourn and tempt us to become bitter and fearful.
We need our souls restored. We need God to repair and renovate our mind, our will, and our emotions. We need Him to purify our hearts and our motives so that we will reflect Him more.
We need our souls restored. We need God to heal us so that we can love again. We need Him to fix the places in our hearts that want to lash out and hurt others as we have been hurt.
We need our souls restored. We need God to forgive us so that we can learn to forgive others. We need His grace to flow freely in our lives so that we can give that same grace to others.
We need our souls restored.
I want our marriages to thrive. I want them to be restored to God’s perfect intention for man and wife, but I know that we have to renew our minds and let God restore our souls in order for that to happen.
I don’t know what has built up in your soul. I don’t know what thoughts have crept into your mind that don’t belong there. I don’t know what emotion has taken root in your heart that needs to be pruned away. I don’t know what you are keeping records of that should be wiped clean. I don’t know, but you do.
Take some time today to ask God to restore your soul. Deal honestly with Him about what you are feeling and why you feel that way. Then ask Him to restore you to His original intention. Be willing to do whatever He says so that you can flourish by green pastures and still waters.
Lord, restore our souls.
